Events held across Lahore to pay tributes to martyrs

Candlelight vigils were organised at Yadgar-e-Shuahada Mall Road and Liberty Chowk

LAHORE: To pay tributes to martyrs, a number of events were organised in the city on Saturday and Friday in connection with Police Martyrs Day.

On Friday night, candlelight vigils were held at Yadgar-e-Shuahada Mall Road, Liberty Chowk and Lalak Chowk Defence to tribute to the martyrs. Police officers, families of the martyrs and victims' colleagues attended the event.

On Saturday, a ceremony was held at Qila Gujjar Singh Police Lines. In the ceremony, IGP Syed Kaleem Imam paid a visit to Yadgar-e-Shuhada. SSP Operations Asad Sarfaraz paid a visit to the graveyard where Constable Azam is buried. Chief Traffic police Officer Liaqat Malik paid a visit to the grave of DIG Traffic Captain (retd) Mobeen Ahmad Shaheed.

Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Dr Hassan Askari, senior police officers, including the Inspector General of Police Syed Kaleem Imam, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) BA Nasir, DIG Operations Shahzad Akbar, Chief Traffic Police Officer (CTO) Liaquat Malik, SSP Operations Asad Sarfaraz Khan and others participated in the events.

A grand ceremony at Alhamara Hall was also organized. In the ceremony, caretaker Chief Minister Dr Hassan Askari, Caretaker Home Minister Shaukat Javed, Punjab IGP Syed Kaleem Imam, CCPO BA Nasir, other senior police officers, families of the victims and a large number of police officials participated.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Askari said that martyrs had sacrificed their lives for the people of Pakistan. The sacrifices they made in a battle of right and wrong will always be remembered, he added.

Police force to get martyrs’ package next week: CM Marri

The Punjab IGP said that over 1,400 police martyrs were a feather in the cap of the police department. He said today was the day to rejuvenate our resolve to remember that martyrs always remain alive. "We were the chosen ones as we had the opportunity to serve the people. We should make a resolve to pay tributes to the martyrs by doing our job diligently and facilitating public."

CCPO BA Nasir said that the martyrs have fulfilled their resolve by sacrificing their lives. He said that August 4 is marked to express that the martyrs have not been forgotten.
