Protests: Chief Justice takes AAG to task
The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday took notice of the unsatisfactory response by an assistant advocate general (AAG) in a petition against protest demonstrations on The Mall.
The chief justice (CJ) said that if the administrators were unable to perform their duties, there was no justification for them to hold the posts. The CJ was hearing a petition by The Mall Traders Union seeking directions for the city and provincial government to stop protests on The Mall.
Chief Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhary remembered that it appeared that they (respondents) are not inclined to take any action to resolve the grievances of the petitioners.
The petitioners informed the court that owing to the protests on The Mall they had been facing losses of millions. They submitted that the city administration be directed to stop protests on The Mall.
The court asked the AAG to come up with a reasonable reply till June 3, the next date of hearing.
