Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed has predicted that a ‘forward bloc’ would emerge in the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, saying that the former ruling party would ‘implode’.

Speaking to the media outside the Bani Gala residence of prime minister-in-waiting Imran Khan on Friday, the AML chief claimed that several PML-N leaders – including former finance minister Ishaq Dar – would become ‘approvers’ against the Sharifs and testify against them [in corruption references].

Former premier Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Capt (retd) Safdar are currently serving jail sentences after their conviction in the Avenfield reference. Three more references against the former ruling family are pending adjudication in the court.

Rasheed, who is also a close confidante of Imran Khan, dismissed rumours about defections and fragmentation in the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in Punjab, where the PML-N is also engaged in wheeling and dealing in an effort to form its government in the province.

The AML chief claimed that the PTI would unveil a coalition government in Punjab by Monday. “I know the names of the proposed chief minister and cabinet members, but I would not disclose them here because Imran Khan has asked me to keep them to myself.”
