A court has restrained Jinnah hospital from evicting nine employees from old barracks which are now needed for a new jail ward.
Jinnah hospital’s executive director wrote letters to the nine employees, asking them to leave in three days or face eviction.
The space where they are living is needed now as the Sindh High Court has ordered the hospital to build a jail ward. Jail wards are special wards for prisoners who are facing trial but need to be admitted for treatment. This is not the first time the employees were asked to leave; on April 25 and May 14 similar requests were made.
Saira Shaikh is representing the residents, Nadeem Wali Khan and Zaheer Abbas along with seven others.
The residents said that they had been working at different wards and have been on emergency duty since 1994 which is why they were given a place to live close to their work stations.
On Friday, a division bench of Justices Maqbool Baqar and Ghulam Sarwar Korai issued notices to the respondents besides the Deputy Attorney General, for May 31. It also ordered that until the next hearing, the employees shall not be kicked out.
