KARACHI:

The Sindh Minister for Health, Dr Sagheer Ahmed, has directed all EDOs Health and medical superintendents of government facilities to ensure the availability of medicines for gastroenteritis and diarrhoea.

In a directive, the minster said that with the increase in temperature, there is need to have adequate arrangements to handle any emergency. “As a routine, we register the increase in the number of such cases, particularly among children during summers,” he said.

Dr Ahmed added that the focus must not simply be on the administration of medicines, equal attention must also be given to handling dehydration, a common consequence of the two health conditions. “Do not forget to use an adequate quantity of ORS for affected children to maintain the required level of minerals in their bodies,” he said. The minister directed all EDOs to maintain a close liaison with their respective government institutions to ensure the provision of clean drinking water to the residents.
