Monsoon plantation: Mayor calls for clearing bushes, wild shrubs

Environment Wing urged to clean streams and nullahs for smooth flow of water

ISLAMABAD: Mayor Sheikh Anser Aziz has directed the Environment Wing for immediate removal, cutting and trimming of wild bushes and shrubs all over the city.

The Environment Wing has been instructed to complete this task within a week.

Mayor Aziz passed these directions while chairing a meeting held at the mayor’s office to review the performance of the Environment Wing of Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation (IMC).

Aziz directed the officers of the Environment Wing to remain present in the field and ensure proper cutting of shrubs, wild bushes and trimming of trees so that monsoon tree plantation campaign could be launched.

He directed to clean the streams and nullah to ensure smooth flow of water. While taking notice of unsatisfactory performance of OGMs and supervisory staff, Aziz directed to take strict action against the employees who are not performing their duties up to the mark. He directed the union leaders to ask the employees to fully participate in the campaign as it is prime responsibility of IMC to keep city clean and green.

Moreover, Aziz instructed the Environment Wing to make arrangements for the monsoon tree plantation drive.

He said that more trees would be planted than the traditionally set target.

On this occasion, Aziz was informed that during the current monsoon tree plantation drive various NGOs are being involved, which has brought a positive response.

He was informed that more than 26 NGOs and various other departments are in contact with IMC and will provide four to six feet tall plants.

Environment Wing is providing them with plantation sites and technical assistance for the purpose.

He was informed that during the Monsoon Tree Plantation Campaign saplings would be provided by the nursery of IMC.
