SUKKUR: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in Sukkur arrested a man posing to be a NAB officer.

Irshad Ali Channa was arrested by NAB Sukkur Intelligence team and Jamshoro Police on Monday.

The arrest was made on the directives of the NAB chief Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal, who had ordered the arrest of proclaimed offenders, absconders and impersonators.

Information regarding the culprit surfaced after an unidentified cell number was traced.

The impersonator was involved in making calls to government officials, politicians, bankers and extorting money from them.

The cell number was traced and found registered in the name of Ameer Badshah, a resident of Kohat.

Upon further investigation, the intelligence authorities traced the number to the actual culprit Irshad Ali Channa.

The fact that the imposter was using someone else's cell number to impersonate himself as a NAB officer also became a part of the record.

NAB does not believe in vindictive actions, says Javed Iqbal

Channa confessed that he had been involved in extorting money from officers of government departments, politicians and private personnel.

The mode of extortion was through e-commerce transaction platforms.

An FIR has been lodged at Jamshoro police station against the culprit.

The culprit is now under police remand and further investigation is currently underway.
