Bureau chairman assures zero-tolerance policy against the corrupt

ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairperson Justice (retired) Javed Iqbal said that the bureau is following a policy of zero-tolerance and accountability of all against the corrupt elements.

“NAB does not believe in vindictive actions,” he said speaking at a cheque distribution ceremony among the victims of Model Housing Enclave at NAB Headquarters Lahore.

Lahore NAB Director General Saleem Shahzad along with other NAB officers was also present on the occasion. Iqbal distributed cheques worth over Rs248 million among 190 victims of Model Housing Enclave.

No clear rules for NAB chief’s removal

Iqbal said that NAB turned “double shah into single”. They recovered and returned Rs4billion to the victims from a scam of Rs9 billion by double shah.

“NAB has returned Rs1.2 billion out of Rs1.9 billion from the second accused Toqeer Gilani in the scam…returned Rs360 million to the victims of Elite Town Housing Scheme… returned Rs18 billion in housing scheme sector to victims,” he added.

Iqbal reiterated the claim that NAB being a national institution believed in action in the light of the principles of transparency, merit and evidence. He added that the regulators should take notice of attractive advertisements of the private housing societies and would check whether the society had got approved the lay-out plan and received NOC from them.

Meanwhile, Lahore NAB issued an advertisement inviting public to submit their complaints against Hamza Garden Kanwal Block Housing Scheme Old Kahna. The ad stated that NAB had started investigations against the housing scheme as they had been accused of looting money from the public through fraud and coercion. The victims were invited to submit their complaints with complete documentation to NAB Lahore DG office within 30 days of the ad.
