RAWALPINDI: The first proper police hospital in the federal capital is likely to get final approval soon after the new government takes charge, sources said.

The ICT Police Hospital project has a price tag of more than Rs3.95 billion, sources said adding that the master planning and designing process has been initiated.

The hospital will provide free medical care to the police officials and their families. The ICT Police Hospital will be built in the Sector H.

The 400-bed capacity health facility will have six floors and a functional basement with heating ventilation and cooling system. Although such amenities are common in private hospitals, the public sector is seen lacking such basic facilities.

Besides infrastructure, sources said, the hospital will also have a specialist doctor in  every department. They said that many public health facilities have doctors on payroll, but infact these professionals are found in their private clinics only. However, police will ensure that the doctors complete their duty at their hospital. Besides, the planned facility will get state of the art operation theatres, ICU, CCU, emergency, OPD and other departments.

The development work will be completed within one year after which the hospital will soon be made functional, sources said.

Last year a hospital in the Police Line Headquarters in Islamabad has been upgraded along with an increase in the number of beds and provision of modern machinery. Basic facilities such as X-ray, Electro Cardiogram (ECG), diabetes clinic and others have been set up, while two air-conditioned general medical wards have been set up with a capacity of ten beds each. Moreover, a ward for officers with four beds is set to become operational soon while a sample collection centre for medical tests has also been set up, police sources said on Wednesday.
