KARACHI:

Abdul Qadir, the owner and president of Marium Market Shopowners Association and Pak Alliance of Markets Association, represented thousands of shopkeepers who filed a constitutional petition in the Sindh High Court, alleging that the pedestrian bridge at Jama Cloth Market is being misused.

He submitted that the bridge was built 30 years ago and has now become a haven for drug addicts and other elements. The SHC division bench noted that the purpose for which the bridge was made is being compromised and thus notice and action ought to be taken.

In its decision, the bench, comprising Justice Maqbool Baqar and Justice Ghulam Sarwar Korai, on Thursday appointed the court’s nazir to inspect the pedestrian bridge, look into the complaints and submit a report in a week.
