MULTAN:
The Multan district government issued show cause notices to two Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders on Tuesday.

PML-N candidate Abdul Ghaffar Dogar may be declared ineligible for the general elections after a reference under Article 234 has been sent to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), said Multan District Government Spokesperson Wasim Yousuf.

Just last week, Dogar was fined for violating ECP’s code of conduct. He is contesting the polls from NA-157 in Multan.

‘PML-N failed to deliver during their tenure’

Multan Deputy Commissioner Mudassir Riaz had also imposed a Rs40,000 fine on PML-N District President Bilal Butt for changing the venue of a procession without seeking proper permission from the district government.

“All parties should seek proper permission from the district administration for all sorts of rallies and processions,” said the DC. PML-N’s local leadership has put Shehbaz Sharif’s life in danger by changing the venue of the procession. He declared both the candidates as “unsatisfactory”.

Further, Yousaf added that on the directives of the deputy commissioner, action has been taken on the 1,100 complaints regarding code violations. Various political parties, including Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf (PTI), Tehreek-e-Labbaik (TLP) and Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA), have violated the ECP’s code of conduct, he explained. He added fines worth Rs0.5 million have been imposed on four candidates.

In addition to this, the case of two government officials who participated in electioneering has been forwarded to ECP, he revealed.

Basti Malook police also registered an FIR against PTI leader Amir Khaleel and three others for using firecrackers during an election campaign. Further investigations are currently underway, police added.

Similarly, a case has also been registered against TLP candidate Muhammad Safee and 250 others at City Police Station in Alipur for taking out a rally without proper permission and for using a loudspeaker. Meanwhile, a case was also registered by Alipur police against MMA candidate Arshad Siddique, his four brothers and 60 supporters for taking out rallies without permission and for using a loudspeaker.
