QUETTA: After Jhalawan, the Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) have decided to extend seat adjustments for national and provincial assemblies to other areas of Balochistan as well.

The decision was taken during a joint press conference held at the Quetta Press Club on Saturday. Addressing the conference, BNP-M’s Senator Jahanzaib Jamaldini and JUI-F’s Malik Sikandar Advocate disclosed the seat adjustments for general election 2018.

They said, “The seat adjustments have been made in Musakhel, Lasbela and Quetta.” JUI-F’s candidate for NA-272 Lasbela/Gwadar Allah Bakhsh has withdrawn his nomination papers in favour of Akhtar Jan Mengal, while for NA-258, BNP-M has withdrawn Haq Nawaz in support of JUI-F’s Ameen Zaman.

“For Quetta’s PB-25 constituency, BNP-M’s Luqman has been withdrawn in favour of JUI-F’s Malik Sikandar Advocate. Now for NA-272, -258 and PB-25, BNP-M and JUI-F workers and supporters will launch joint campaigns,” Jamaldini said.

“There are speculations and suspicions regarding rigging in the elections, but Election Commission of Pakistan is responsible for ensuring free and fair elections in Pakistan,” said Jamaldini, adding that impartial elections would help the country boost its economy.

On emergence of the Balochistan Awami Party and the interim government’s soft corner for it, JUI-F’s Sikandar said, “A single party in the province is given complete impunity for conducting election campaigns and rest of the parties are restricted from going to the public.”

He said, “The behaviour of the interim government in the province is negatively affecting the performance of the ECP; therefore, the caretaker government should play its rule in conducting free and fair elections.”
