General Election 2018: Expired ID cards valid for voting

ISLAMABAD:
The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) enabled holders of expired ID cards to cast vote.
NADRA had been asked by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to do this a day ago.
The decision in this regard was taken during a top-tier meeting of NADRA here that was presided over by Chairman of the authority Usman Mobeen.
A number of related decisions were also taken during the meeting.
NADRA activates software to transmit election results
They included fast-track printing of National Identity Cards and ensuring their delivery before July 25. NADRA offices would be open 24 hours a day across the country, facilitating prospective voters. They will remain open even on Saturday and Sunday ahead of the polls till 2pm.
Deciding to print all cards on urgent basis, even those of normal category, NADRA officials decided to process all applications for new ID cards received before July 16 on priority basis.
NADRA also decided not to confiscate old ID cards of applicants since July 16.
The authority directed the courier company concerned to ensure the dispatch of ID cards on weekends too.
According to the Election Act 2017 the national identity cards issued by NADRA shall be deemed valid for registration as a voter for casting vote in an election, notwithstanding the expiry of its validity period.
There are at least 106 million registered voters eligible to cast their vote on July 25.
