Turkey is an ancient land, the cradle of civilisation and the centre of world history. Indeed, it is a captivating blend of East and West, antiquity and contemporary, the exotic and the familiar. During my travels, I visited three impressive cities of Turkey; Istanbul, Konya and Cappadocia
Istanbul
where continents meet
It is a magical meeting place of East and West. It is a transcontinental city that straddles Europe and Asia across the Bosphorus. Historically, It is known as Constantinople and Byzantium. It is home to many top attractions such as Topkapi Palace, Aya Sofia , Blue Mosque , Basilicia Cistern and Grand Bazaar. I highly recommend the Bosphorus Cruise as it is the highlight of Istanbul.
Konya
city of Rumi and Whirling Dervishes
Known as the City of Hearts, Konya is situated south of Ankara in Turkey‘s Central Anatolia region. The Persian poet and Sufi thinker “Mevlana” or Rumi settled in this city during the reign of Sultanate of Rome with Konya as its capital. Konya boasts of Mevlana Museum, resting place of Maulana Rumi and Sham - I Tabrezi. One can also enjoy Sema- the dance of whirling dervishes here.
Cappadocia
The land of “ Fairy Chimneys” and cave dwellers
Cappadocia is so unique in natural, historical and archaeological wonders that it is today one of the most favoured tourist destinations of the world. The hot air balloon ride over the scenic view of Cappadocia will make your visit worthwhile. My stay in Turkey was an unforgettable experience. Each city was magical in its own way and offered diverse impressions to visitors. I was truly amazed. All in all, my visit to Turkey was definitely a blend of adventure, breathtaking scenery, unique culture and heritage and amazing people.
