ISLAMABAD: The caretaker government has appointed Tariq Mahmood Khokhar as additional attorney general for Pakistan (AAGP). Khokhar, who assumed his charge on Monday, has already worked on the same post for two years form 2013-14.
According to a notification issued on Monday, the president of Pakistan appointed Khokhar as the AAGP “in exercise of powers conferred by sub section (1) of section 2 read with section 3 (a) (3A) of the Central Law Officers Ordinance 1970.”
He has also been heading Human Right cell, which was formed by the former attorney general Muneer A Malik for the implementation of the apex court’s directives on enforced disappearances. The AGP’s HR cell headed by Khokhar successfully produced a number of missing persons before the SC.

Khokhar also worked Punjab additional advocate general from 1999 to 2003. He was also consultant to the AGP in 1996-97 and was a founding member of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP).

Renowned lawyer Faisal Siddiqui appreciated the government for appointing Khokhar at the key post, saying he has done a great job for implementing the SC's orders for ensuring fundamental rights.
