Officials should come up with a comprehensive strategy for polio campaigns so that 100% results could be achieved. Success depends on the hard work of the field teams.

This was stated by Deputy Commissioner Jamil Ahmed Jamil during a meeting in Rahim Yar Khan. The meeting was held to examine the arrangements for the polio drive that would commence from August 6 in the district. The meeting was attended by Health CEO Dr Agha Tauheed, Education CEO Malik Mukhtar Ahmed, WHO representative Dr Mufakir Mian and other officials.

He said that in view of the past campaigns, a comprehensive strategy will be chalked out so that no child up to the age of five remains without vaccine in the region.


Meanwhile, CEO Health Dr Agha Tauheed said that all the arrangements for the polio campaign had been completed and the process of training teams had begun. He said since polio cases surfaced in Balochistan, a campaign will be run in the district’s Sadiqabad tehsil and other specified union councils.

He mentioned that the number of children below the age of five in the district was 472,000 for which 919 mobile teams had been formed. Besides, he pointed out that 113 fixed teams, 73 teams at transit points and a total of 1,116 teams had been formed. These teams would be supervised by 62 medical officers and 222 area in charges.

WHO representative Dr Mufakir Mian said that so far, three polio cases had been reported in Pakistan. He said that in a bid to eradicate polio completely, all stakeholders will have to work as a team.
