LAHORE: Punjab Chief Secretary Akbar Durrani planted a sapling at Civil Secretariat on Monday as part of the tree plantation campaign currently underway in the province. The Punjab government has set a target of planting 30 million saplings over a span of three months. The CS stated that necessary instructions have been issued to the relevant departments and the deputy commissioner to make the tree plantation campaign a success. The objective of the campaign is to promote tree plantation, he said.  “Controlling environmental pollution is a service to humanity; there is an urgent need to protect our environment,” he stressed. He also ordered the relevant authorities to mobilise the community and launch an awareness campaign regarding air pollution and the benefits of planting trees.
