FAISALABAD: A man threw acid on his wife for meeting her sister in Faisalabad’s Sabir Colony, police told Express News on Friday.

The police said that victim Nusrat Bibi lodged a complaint at the police station in which she stated that her husband Iftikhar used to quarrel with her over domestic issues and beat her. She stated that the accused would not allow her to meet her brothers, sisters and other relatives. She added her husband threatened her with dire consequences if she did not follow his instructions.

The victim said that on the day of the incident, one of her sisters came to meet her while her husband was not present in the house. She said that in the meantime, Iftikhar entered the house along with his friend and was enraged when he saw the sister.

Anti-acid attack bill gathers dust

The accused took out a bottle of acid and threw it on her. As a result, she suffered burn injuries on her face and head.

The woman said that soon after the incident, her husband apologised and pleaded with her not to register a case at the police station.   She maintained the accused also promised that he would no longer beat or stop her from meeting relatives.

The victim added that she trusted her husband and did not register a complaint. However, she said that Iftikhar started fighting with her over minor issues all over again and also assaulted her.

The woman told police that she feared for her life and demanded that police arrest the culprit.

The police have registered a case against the husband under Section 336-B and started an investigation.

Earlier in a similar incident in Gujrat, a woman was attacked with acid and two others were injured for turning down a marriage proposal.

The victims, students of University of Gujrat, were standing at a bus stop when three men on a motorcycle hurled acid at them. The police said the victim’s uncle attacked her for turning down a marriage proposal.

Andrew | 5 years ago | Reply This is disgusting. Who is a husband to stop his wife from meeting her relatives. Who is a wife to stop a husband from meeting his relatives. This is beyond what can be borne. He should be imprisoned and acid thrown on certain organs of his to make him understand the pain that acid causes the victim. Sick people. We Pakistani's don't know where to draw the line. Pathetic excuses for humans the whole bunch of us are.
