LAHORE: Lahore police finalised a security plan for the arrival of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz on Friday.

DIG Operations Shehzad Akbar said that over 10,000 policemen will be on duty in order to maintain the law and order situation in the provincial capital.

He added that the anti-riot unit will remain on high alert while officials from the Dolphin Squad and the Police Response Unit will patrol sensitive areas in the city.

The route from the airport will be divided into two parts; the first is related to security at and around the airport, while the second is from Cantt to Jati Umra.

Peaceful workers and leaders will be provided with complete protection, he maintained. He directed all SPs to take strict action against those who will attempt to take the law into their hands during the election campaign.

He said that those individuals found guilty of violating the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) code of conduct will be arrested. The DIG added that 150 activists from different political parties were detained to maintain law and order.
