DMO issues notices to seven PML-N leaders
District administration continues to remove oversized publicity material

The District Monitoring Officer (DMO) Dr Umer Jahangir on Wednesday issued show-cause notices to seven PML-N leaders for violating the election code of conduct while participating in the car rally of Capt (retd) Muhammad Safdar prior to his arrest by a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) team in connection with his conviction in the Avenfield property reference.
Jahangir, who is also the deputy commissioner of the district, said that the rally organisers did not take prior permission from the district administration, which was mandatory according to the code of conduct announced by Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

As the sections 32, 40 and 41 of the code of conduct did not allow to hold a car rally, but Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidates including Malik Shakeel Awan from PP-18, Daniyal Chaudhary from NA-62, Muhammad Hanif Abbasi from NA-60, Senator Chaudhary Tanveer Khan, Sheikh Arslan Hafeez, candidate from PP-16, Malik Ibrar Ahmed, candidate NA-61 and Raja Hanif Advocate, candidate for PP-17, participated in the illegal rally taken out on July 8 and violated the code of conduct, the DMO observed.
The said people were granted bail by sessions judges on Tuesday.
Oversized posters
The district administration has removed 18,563 election publicity material including banners, hoardings, steamers and panaflexes from different areas of Rawalpindi district while total 469 violations of election code of conduct were reported, said Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Sara Hayat on Wednesday.
She said that immediate action in accordance with the law was taken on the violations.
Most of the violations were of oversize banners, panaflexes and other publicity material. She informed that the district administration on the directive of DMO Jahangir was making all out efforts to ensure implementation of election code of conduct.
The deputy commissioners concerned were removing unapproved size election publicity material from rural and urban areas of the district.
She said that action was taken in Rawalpindi city, Kahuta, Murree, Gujar Khan, Kotli Sattian, Taxila, Kalar Syedan and other areas without any discrimination.
The campaign would continue and no one would be allowed to violate the rules, she added.
She said, the ACs had been directed to take action on violation of Code of Conduct issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for upcoming general elections 2018 and remove all unapproved size banners and posters displayed by political parties and election candidates.
According to the ECP code of conduct the size of portraits should be 2x3 feet, banners 3x9 feet, posters 18x23 inches and handbills should not be larger than 6x9 inches.
PML-N supporters to welcome Sharifs ‘in large number’
There is also a ban on the use of panaflex banners and posters as well as wall-chalking.
The administration has warned the candidates that a report of the violations will be sent to the ECP.
The operation being conducted on daily basis would continue till the completion of the general elections and no relaxation will be given to anyone. She said, on second violation, the case would be reported to district monitoring officer who would initiate legal action against the candidate.
