Court imposes Rs20,000 fine on convicts

MANDI BAHAUDDIN: A court sentenced three men to life in prison in a sexual assault case in Mandi Bahauddin’s Phalia Tehsil.

The judgment was announced by Additional District and Sessions Judge Aurangzeb. The prosecution told the court that accused Junaid Ashraf, Khurram and another man had abducted a 10th grade student while she was passing through the fields and sexually assaulted her.

The local police registered a case against the accused and presented the challan before the court. After hearing the arguments, the culprits were found guilty and the judge handed down a life sentence to all of them. The court also imposed a fine of Rs20,000 on each of them as compensation which would be paid to the victim’s family.

Accused in Asma rape, murder case sentenced to life imprisonment

Earlier, a sessions court awarded death sentences to two accused and a life term to another for their involvement in a murder case in Jhang. The judgment was announced by District and Sessions Judge Azam Soraya.

The accused included Nabi Bakhsh, Waris, Ghulam Abbas, Ismail, Naseem and Usman had gunned down Humayun and his son Ghulam Akbar. After hearing the arguments, the court sentenced Nabi Bakhsh and Waris to death along with a fine of Rs0.5 million each.

The court also awarded a life sentence to Usman and directed him to pay a fine of Rs0.1 million. However, the judge acquitted Ghulam Abbas, Ismail and Naseem in the case, giving them the benefit of doubt.
