Govt ordered to get Islamic College vacated by August 9
SHC reserves verdict on petition challenging rejection of nomination papers
KARACHI:
On a petition of the Islamic Education Trust, the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday granted time to the government till August 9 to get the building of Islamia College vacated.
The petitioner sought contempt of court proceedings against the government for its failure in implementing the earlier court orders.
A lawyer representing the government contended that that petitioner's claim over the building was not true, to which the bench remarked that the trust waited for 20 years to get the verdict in its favour and now the government was questioning their claim again.
The petitioner's lawyer argued that a lower court had ordered on March 30 the government to get the buildings of Islamia College and schools on New MA Jinnah Road vacated. He requested the SHC to initiated contempt proceedings against the government officials and former inspector-general of police for not implementing the order.
The SHC directed the provincial government to get the building vacated till August 9.

PTI candidate's plea
The SHC also reserved its verdict on the petition of a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) election candidate, Naeem Adil Sheikh, against the rejection of his nomination papers.
A two-member bench heard Sheikh's petition. He had submitted nomination papers for NA-236, however, the returning officer (RO) concerned rejected his papers on the ground of non-disclosure of required information. According to the RO, the PTI candidate had not disclosed his debts in the nomination papers.
After his papers were rejected by relevant forums, Sheikh approached the high court. After hearing arguments from the respondents, the bench reserved the verdict.
