Filming for 'Child's Play' remake to begin this Autumn
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the original Tom Holland directorial
A Child’s Play remake is being fast-tracked by MGM Studios, with director Lars Klevberg set to begin filming in Vancouver this Autumn, revealed the The Hollywood Reporter.
With this year marking the 30th anniversary of the original Tom Holland directorial, the film reboot couldn't come at a better time. The 1988 doll, which is possessed by the soul of a serial killer, has been very popular with the audiences with its seven-film series.
Speculations regarding a Child’s Play remake have been around for years and for some, this may come as a surprise given that the franchise, which has been rebranded as the Chucky franchise since, is still going.
Child’s Play is also set to come to the small screen with its TV series in the works. The planned project hails from Don Mancini, the creator of evil doll Chucky, alongside franchise producer David Kirschner.
Mancini, who wrote the screenplay and directed Seed of Chucky, Curse of Chucky and Cult of Chucky stated that the plan is to develop an eight-part series. Each episode will be in an hour long, with the series serving as a continuation of the events in last year’s Cult of Chucky.
He added that the series will have a ‘dark and disturbing’ tone. “We plan to use Child’s Play in the title. We want to definitely signal that we are going dark, darker than ever before. It’s going to be very creepy,” Mancini said.
