All you need to know about Disney's upcoming remake of 'Aladdin'
Fans are in for a treat as they have the chance to experience a 'whole new world' with the 2019 version
Disney fans are in for a treat as they will have the chance to experience a "whole new world" with the love story of Aladdin and Princess Jasmine once again. And there's a lot of new stuff fans need to know about the highly-anticipated film, slated to release in spring 2019.
The live-action remake is based on Aladdin and the Magic Lamp from The Book of One Thousand and One Nights, revealed The Hollywood Reporter. Along with all the classic songs, the remake will also feature new music from composer Alan Menken.
The worldwide casting call for Alladin began back in 2017. The team was in search of diverse actors who could sing as well as act. After going over global talent with a fine-tooth comb, they finally found the two leads.
The film stars Mena Massoud in the lead role as Aladdin, alongside Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine and superstar Will Smith as the Genie. At this year's CinemaCon, Smith hinted that his interpretation of the role will be "a little bit Hitch, a little Fresh Prince and with a whole lot of attitude," putting his own spin on the wish-granter.
Other than this, Marwan Kenzari, plays Jafar, Navid Negahban is the Sultan and Nasim Pedrad has taken on the role of Dalia, the handmaiden and confidante to Princess Jasmine who did not appear in the original.
Another character that was not in the original animation but will be seen in the 2019 version is that of Prince Anders, a suitor for Jasmine's hand in marriage who will be played by Billy Magnussen.
This news actually sparked a lot of controversy when it first came out in September of last year though. The choice of creating a new character for and the casting of Magnussen in the film drew a lot of criticism due to the actor's white ethnicity.
Confirmed: 'Hera Pheri 3' to release in 2019
Disney has not yet released any teasers or promos for the 2019 film but we obviously cannot wait!
