MMA throws weight behind independent
In return, Nawab Salahuddin Abbasi will support MMA’s Dr Syed Wasim Akhtar in Bahawalpur

Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) has pledged support for Nawab Salahuddin Abbasi in all constituencies. In return, Abbasi will support MMA candidate Dr Syed Wasim Akhtar in Bahawalpur.
While addressing a joint press conference at a local restaurant on Thursday, Abbasi said he would prefer Dr Akhtar over PTI candidate Farooq Azam Malik. He added that he was supporting Dr Syed Wasim Akhtar and Allama Shafqatur Rehman because they were supporters of the restoration of the Bahawalpur province.
The Nawab of Bahawalpur said the decision to join hands with PTI was taken by his son Bahawal Abbasi who was contesting polls as an independent candidate. He said that nobody, including Nawaz Sharif, was in the favour of more provinces being carved out of Punjab.
Meanwhile, all arrangements for General Elections 2018 had been completed in Bahawalpur. There are 1,881,393 registered voters for whom 1,368 polling stations were created. A total of 1,044,501 male voters and 836,892 female voters would use their right to cast ballots at polling stations.

As many as 68 Polling stations out of 1,368 have been declared sensitive and strict security arrangements have been made. CCTV cameras and walkthrough gates have been installed to monitor these polling stations. Dolphin Force and officials of law enforcement agencies have been deployed to maintain law and order.
A total of 329 polling stations for men and 330 polling stations for women have been established, while there are 709 combined polling stations. At these, 3,966 polling booths have been established out of which 2,100 polling booths were for men and 1,866 polling booths were for women.
A total of 1,368 presiding officers, along with 7,932 assistant presiding officers and 3,966 polling officers, would perform their duties. The electoral process has also been constituted on the union council level according to which 12 union councils have been placed in PP-245 of Bahawalpur City and 15 under PP-246. PP-247 of Khairpur Tamewali has nine iunion councils, PP-248 Hasilpur has 12 union councils, PP 249 Yazman has nine union councils, PP-250 Head Rajkaan has 10 union councils, PP-251 Ahmadpur East has 11 union councils, PP-252 Ahmadpur East Saddar has 13 union councils, PP-253 Naushera Jadeed has 8 union councils and PP-254 Uch Sharif has 13 union councils. For NA-170 (Bahawalpur), there are 14 polling stations which have been declared sensitive.
