New Delhi’s police received information on Monday from a local hospital, about a girl who had been brought in due to severe bleeding, a senior officer said.
The police also said that when asked, the victim told a counselor at the hospital that her elder brother forced himself on her while their parents were not present.

Upon their return in the evening, the parents found the girl bleeding and rushed her to a hospital.
The officer added that the boy has been detained.
Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal visited the victim on Wednesday.
“She sustained severe injuries and had to undergo a major operation. Currently, she is in a serious condition,” the DCW said in a statement.
“The girl’s parents are daily wage labourers and are very poor,” it added.
The DCW said it will file a case to seek compensation for the victim and will also support her treatment.

“Crimes against women and girls are on a rise in the country and concerted steps have to be taken by the government against them,” Maliwal said.
“The commission shall be assisting the survivor in all ways possible to recover from the trauma,” Maliwal said.
More than two child rape cases are reported in India's capital city every day, according to Delhi Police data 282 cases of child rape were reported compared till April 30, in comparison to 278 cases reported last year during the same period.
The data also showed that a total of 894 cases of child rape were reported, last year.
