‘Continue crackdown against ECP code violators’

Division commissioner warns of strict action against those found guilty

LAHORE: Lahore Division Commissioner Dr Mujtaba Piracha directed all district monitoring officers and deputy commissioners to continue their crackdown against those violating the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) code of conduct.

Chairing a divisional meeting about the election arrangements on Monday, he also directed the officials to send the reference of elected local representatives or government officers, if they were found to be involved in election campaigns violating the code of conduct. He warned that strict action will be taken against such violators.

Implementing the ECP code of conduct must be unanimous across the board. Close coordination between the administration and the police will pave the way for free and fair elections in the country, he remarked.

Warnings, show cause notices, penalties and references will be used to implement the commission’s code of conduct, stated Piracha.

Sheikhupura Regional Police Officer, Lahore DIG Operations, Lahore, Nankana Sahib, Kasur deputy commissioners including all district election commissioners attended the meeting.
