FAISALABAD:
Citizens remain at the mercy of criminals after 7,137 robberies were reported in Faisalabad during the first six months of the year. Robbers deprived the citizens of cash, mobile phones, gold jewellery and other valuables during the incidents that took place in different parts of the district, Express News reported.
Data collected from the police revealed that 1,836 motorcycles and rickshaws and 193 cars worth Rs460 million were snatched or stolen across the district.
The robbers also looted 108 houses and three jewellery shops in the district and escaped with the booty.
Statistics also showed that 15 people were shot dead while 57 suffered injuries in different armed robberies. At least four police encounters were reported in Faisalabad during six months in which one police official was killed while five others were injured.
Month-wise data
In January, 286 motorcycles and 34 cars were snatched while 16 homes were looted. In addition, 1,155 incidents of robberies were also reported.
In February, 225 motorcycles and 30 cars were snatched while 15 homes were looted. Besides, 329 robberies were also committed while two people were gunned down during robbery bids. Eight others were injured for showing resistance.
In March, 331 motorcycles and 41 cars were snatched while 21 homes were looted. In addition, 469 incidents of robberies were also reported. Five people were killed while 17 suffered bullet injuries during robbery attempts.
In April, 274 motorcycles and 32 cars were snatched while 17 homes were looted. Likewise, four people were murdered while nine suffered injuries while resisting robbery bids.

In May, 370 motorcycles and 19 cars were snatched while 21 homes were looted. Besides, 480 incidents of robberies were also reported. Two people were killed while nine were injured in different robberies.
In June, 353 motorcycles and 37 cars were snatched while 18 homes were looted. Besides, 277 robberies were also committed while two people were gunned down during robbery bids. 14 others were also injured upon resistance.
It is ironic that despite spending billions of rupees for the capacity building of policemen and deploying well-equipped forces, such as the Police Response Unit, law enforcers are unable to provide security to locals.
