Armed clash leaves three dead, six wounded in Matiari

Clash took place between two factions of Detho community at loggerheads since 2008

HYDERABAD: An armed clash over a marital dispute in Matiari district left three persons dead and six injured. The incident occurred in Bachal Detho village on Saturday evening.

The slain persons were identified as Soomar Detho, Razzak Detho and Ramzan Detho. The injured, Haroon Detho, Hashim Detho, Wahid Bux Detho and three others, were shifted to Liaquat University Hospital in Hyderabad.

Matiari SSP Syed Zahid Hussain Shah told local media that two sides of the Detho community who have been pursuing a vendetta resorted to firing at each other. The factions have been at loggerheads since 2008 when a man of one side eloped with a woman of the other side.

Before the violent episode on Saturday, two women have also been killed earlier in the dispute.

According to the SSP, Ramzan was a passerby while the other Soomar and Razzak belonged to opposing sides. He added that eight persons involved in the armed clash had so far been arrested while raids were being conducted to nab other suspects. The police have also set up pickets in the locality to prevent a recurrence of the violence.

The incident's FIR has not been registered so far.
