Work on Mohmand Dam expected to begin later this year

Following the merger of FATA and KPK, WAPDA will be working on building a dam in Mohmand district

SHABQADAR: With large swathes of Pakistan being termed as water-stressed, work on a new water reservoir in the tribal districts is expected to begin later this year.

Following the merger of the erstwhile Federally Administered Tribal Area (Fata) with Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) will be working on building a dam in Mohmand district.

In this regard, land acquisition work and then work on the project itself is expected to begin later this year.

This was decided in a high-level meeting between Wapda Land and Acquisition General Manager Brigadier (retd) Shoaib Taqi, elders of Mohmand tribes and the district administration in Ghallanai the other day.

In a statement issued by Mohmand Deputy Commissioner, the meeting was attended by Mamad Gat 103-Brigade Brigade Commander, Mohmand Rifles Commandant and local elders from Prang Ghar and Pandyali tehsil of the district.

Brig (retd) Taqi apprised the officials about Mohmand Dam, its dimensions and socio-economic impact.
