Progressive writer Prof Hassan dies

AWP Islamabad-Rawalpindi President says that he had committed his entire life to the emancipation of the oppressed

ISLAMABAD:
Noted Urdu writer, leader of the Progressive Writers Association and Awami Workers Party Education Secretary Professor Yousaf Hassan passed away on Tuesday morning after a short illness, leaving behind a grieving progressive community.

He died in hospital after spending the last few weeks there after his lungs ceased to function without artificial support. He was buried on Tuesday evening. Numerous AWP workers as well as intellectuals, friends and family members were present on the occasion.

Many of his students from Asghar Mall College where Professor Hassan taught for three decades also attended the funeral. AWP Islamabad-Rawalpindi President Masudul Hassan said that Professor Hassan was a peerless progressive intellectual and had committed his entire life to the emancipation of the oppressed.

AWP Punjab President Aasim Sajjad Akhtar said that Professor Hassan actively practiced his ideals through organised revolutionary politics. AWP leaders Ismat Shahjahan and Ammar Rashid also expressed their grief at his passing away.
