Policeman found shot dead in Mehmoodabad
Another constable injured during encounter in Shadman Town
KARACHI:
A policeman was shot dead under mysterious circumstances inside his house in Mehmoodabad on Tuesday.
The incident took place at the house located in Azam Basti within the limits of Mehmoodabad police station. The deceased cop was identified as 30-year-old Zahid Hussain, son of Siddiq Bhatti. His body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities and later handed over to his family for burial.
Following the incident, a contingent of law enforcers visited the house and inquired about the incident. According to Mehmoodabad SHO Falak Sher, the deceased was part of the Shaheen Force in Clifton division. The police have recovered a .30bore pistol from the crime scene, the SHO said, adding that Hussain had been shot once in his head.
‘Patrolling police should exhibit valour’
The police are investigating the case from different angles. It has yet to be ascertained whether the cop was murdered or he committed suicide.
No case had been registered till the filing of this story.
In a separate incident, a police constable was shot and injured in an exchange of fire with suspects in Shadman Town within the limits of the Sharae Noor Jahan police station. According to the police, the encounter took place when Sub-Inspector Kareem Nizami and a constable, 30-year-old Mashkoor Alam, were on patrol in the area. They reportedly intercepted four suspects riding on at least two motorcycles and signalled them to stop, upon which the suspects opened fire on the policemen, injuring the constable.

Police officials claimed that one of the suspects was also wounded in the exchange of fire, however, he managed to flee along with his companions under the cover of fire. A case has been registered while further investigations are under way.
Inspector-General of Police Amjad Javed Saleemi has also taken notices of both the incidents and sought separate reports from the respective zonal police chiefs.
