Hit or miss: IIFA Awards 2018 fashion roundup

KARACHI:
Bangkok was bustling with Bollywood energy as the 19th IIFA Awards ceremony was held in the Thai capital this weekend. While some put their best fashion foot forward, others weren’t really dressed to impress.
Here’s a selection of looks from the IIFA events that caught my eye, not necessarily for the right reasons though.
Riteish Deshmukh
This look was my favourite of the lot. Riteish dared to be different and opted not to turn up at the IIFA Rocks event wearing a boring old suit. Instead, he went for an Antar Agni bandgala and shalwar.
Although the colours were simple, he still managed to make a statement with his unique choice of clothing. The dramatic moustache went perfectly with this traditional but contemporary attire and hence, was a winner.
Shraddha Kapoor
Oh dear, oh dear! Shraddha was not exactly a sight for sore eyes clad in this ReemAcra gown, was she? The bold colours entwined with the satin fabric just did not work, not to mention the neckline and red bustier which made matters far worse. Although the bottom half of the dress is definitely the better one and falls ever so beautifully, the top half is below par at best.
Fashion roundup: Aisha Khan's 5 wedding looks
The Ek Villian actor could have made more of an effort with the hair and accessories as the bun was too tedious and the minimal jewellery did not do her any favours. Loose waves and a single diamond necklace probably would have made for a better overall look.
The makeup, however, was flawless with blushed, glowing skin, rose lips and minimal eye makeup.
Karan Johar
The Ae Dil Hai Mushkil film-maker is always one to try something different and make heads turn. This time, his choice of attire was a hit as he looked oh-so-debonair in this Dolce & Gabanna ensemble. The gold silk blazer may be too much for some but if worn right, can make impressions. The quilted detailing made for more of a luxurious feel, as well as the black shirt and trousers. There's only a few who could have pulled off this apparel and Karan did exactly that.
Kriti Sanon
This was another one of my favourites. Although there is so much going on with this dress, the Raabta actor managed to do it justice and that too, effortlessly. As this year’s IIFA style icon, Kriti definitely did not disappoint.
The Dilwale star chose a nude mermaid-style Gaurav Gupta sculpture gown for the IIFA Rocks night. The mesh details and delicate embellishments scream sophistication while the single sleeve gives it a bit of an edge and the crimped ruffles add just the right amount of drama.
The makeup ties in with the ensemble seamlessly with gold eyes, bronzed skin and a deep red pout. Her nail paint matched her lips and she kept her jewellery to a minimum with a pair of single string earrings and a ring. Straight, sleek hair rounded off Kriti’s look.
