LAHORE:
The father of Zainab Ansari, a six-year-old girl raped and murdered earlier this year in Kasur, has moved the Lahore High Court seeking public execution of his daughter’s rapist-murderer.

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) has already condemned 24-year-old Imran Ali to death after convicting him of abducting, raping and murdering Zainab in January, this year.

Zainab’s father Muhammad Amin filed a writ petition under Article 199 of the Constitution making the Punjab government respondent through the home secretary, IGP prisons Lahore, SP Kot Lakhpat and convict Imran Ali.

He implored that the sentence could serve as deterrence for others only if the convict was executed at a public place or his hanging was telecast live on TV.

Amin contended that “Justice for Zainab” became a rallying call of the entire Pakistani nation as it stood against the barbarity and cruelty that had snuffed out the life of his little angel.

The ATC awarded Imran death penalty on four counts for kidnapping, rape, murder and an act of terrorism as well as a life sentence for sodomy.

Later, an appeal of the convict against the conviction was dismissed by a division bench of the LHC dismissed. The convict subsequently filed a challenge in the Supreme Court which was also thrown out.

“The crime of the convict is not less than the murder of the social conscience of society in particular and humanity in general,” said Zainab’s father in the petition.

He requested that the court give the deterrent effect to the punishment, “in order to keep the torch of justice aloft for millions of Pakistanis who hope to see secure and better place for their kids devoid of fear in any manner.”
