PTI demands Punjab governor’s removal
Babar Awan claims Maryam Nawaz's media cell is being operated from Governor House
LAHORE:
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Babar Awan has demanded the removal of Punjab Governor Rafique Rajwana, saying he may influence the upcoming elections.
He was talking to the media on the Lahore High Court premises after attending proceedings of an appeal which the PTI chief Imran Khan had filed in the LHC appellate tribunal. Khan challenged the rejection of his nomination papers by the returning officer concerned.
Awan claimed that the media cell of Maryam Nawaz, daughter of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, is being operated from the governor house and this raises question marks over the process of a fair election. He demanded the immediate removal of the governor Punjab so that an atmosphere of fairness could be created for impartial general elections. He added that all SHOs, as well as tehsildars of Punjab, should be transferred immediately.
Babar Awan contests rejection of Imran’s nomination papers
Responding to a query over the rejection of Imran Khan's nomination papers, he said they were rejected for not mentioning the properties and jewellery of his wife, but no one could be restrained from contesting the election on technical grounds. "There is no issue over the distribution of tickets except those two or three constituencies where the PTI workers held protests."
He said PTI has a contest for three major seats of Lahore, while the rest are in the party's pocket. He added that Imran will kick off his election campaign from Mianwali today.
