In occupied Kashmir, the authorities shifted veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani to Srinagar Central jail and continued to hold the All Parties Hurriyet Conference (APHC) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest on Sunday.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the APHC Chairman was placed under house arrest on Saturday to prevent him from leading a rally in Shopian to remember the two Kashmiri women who were raped and murdered by Indian troops exactly one year ago. The authorities deployed large contingents of Indian policemen outside his house, asking him not to come out.
Syed Ali Gilani, who was arrested on Friday and lodged at Humhama police station by the authorities, was shifted to Srinagar Central Jail on Saturday. Station House Officer (SHO) Humhama, Imtiyaz Mir, confirmed that Gilani was taken into custody and shifted on Saturday.
Meanwhile, at least thirty people were injured when Indian policemen resorted to baton charge and fired bullets and teargas shells to disperse thousands of people who took out a large procession on the Rafiabad-Baramulla highway, carrying the bodies of three innocent Kashmiri youth, who were killed by Indian troops in a fake encounter.
