Pakistan eye first bridge title in 20 years

Championship to start from May 26 in India.

KARACHI:

Pakistan bridge captain Rashidul Ghazi said he is optimistic that the team will do well in the 16th Bridge Federation of Asia and Middle East (BFAME) Championship that is due to start from May 26 in Chennai, India.

The team – hoping for their first title in 20 years – has been practising hard for the tournament, according to Ghazi.

The event features Bangladesh, Bahrain, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, India and Pakistan in the zone-4 championship, and the top two teams will qualify for the World Bridge Championship.

“We’re a strong side but we mostly lose to India,” Ghazi told The Express Tribune. “But this time around we’ve a balanced squad and we’ve worked extra hard.”
