HYDERABAD:
Monitoring committees have been formed for nine constituencies of Hyderabad to ensure that candidates are complying with the Election Commission of Pakistan's (ECP) code of conduct.

According to a notification issued by Regional Election Commissioner Aijaz Anwar Chohan, six monitoring committees have been formed, each comprising two members. Three of the six committees have been assigned two constituencies each while the remaining three will monitor a single constituency each.

These committees will be subordinate to deputy commissioners who have been given the additional charge of district monitoring officers (DMO) for the purpose. The DMOs will report to the regional election commissioner who will also be acting in the capacity of the regional monitoring coordination officer (RMCO).

ECP rejects 21 delimitations objections

Chohan explained that the two-member committee can penalise a candidate and a political party with up to a Rs50,000 fine for a certain violation of the code of conduct. In case of recurrence of a violation or multiple violations, the committee, through the DMO and RMCO, will report to the ECP which besides slapping a fine, can also disqualify a candidate.
