LAHORE: The Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) rejected the de-notification of the first female advocate general of Punjab, Asma Hamid, on Wednesday.

In a press release, LHCBA termed the decision of the interim government as baseless and unjustified. Hamid, being the first female appointee, had distinguished herself as a professional and capable lawyer, read the statement.

Removing her from a constitutional post that has no direct connection with the electoral process is a blatant violation, the statement went on to say.

On Wednesday, the Punjab caretaker government de-notified Asma Hamid as the advocate general of the province, assigning Additional Advocate General Muhammad Shan Gull to the post until an official appointment can be made.

Hamid was the first female advocate general for Punjab. She had been appointed to the post on May 28, just three days before the end of the Punjab government’s tenure.
