LAHORE: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) candidate for NA-133 Faisal Mir filed a petition in the Lahore High Court on Wednesday (LHC) ,challenging the appointment of interim interior minister Azam Khan.

Mir said that Khan abused his power and authority by removing Zulfiqar Bukhari’s name from the exit control list (ECL). He added permission has not been sought from the federal cabinet, he added.

He alleged that Khan had a close, personal relationship with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan and this played a role in permitting Bukhari to travel to perform Umrah despite the fact that his name was on the ECL list.

Tribunal dismisses appeals against rejections

Khan’s appointment is against the mandate of Section 230 of the Election Act 2017 which stipulates that the caretaker government must be impartial towards every single person and political party, he expressed.

As interior minister, Azam could influence the upcoming general elections, he stated. He asked the court to declare Bukhari’s appointment as unlawful. Earlier, the Federal Investigation Agency had suggested Bukhari’s name be placed on the list.
