JHELUM:
A dispute over the award of electoral tickets to candidates in Jhelum — between local leaders and who the locals say ‘have landed by parachutes,’ — seems to have deeply fractured the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supporters in the district. On Monday some party workers, led by disgruntled local leaders, staged a protest against the party leadership for ignoring them in the award of electoral tickets. The central parliamentary board of the PML-N had refused to awarded tickets to local leaders Chaudhry Saeed Iqbal, Raja Zafar Iqbal, Khawaja Nasir Iqbal, Khawaja Nasir Dar, Raja Awais Khalid, and Raja Bilal Azhar Kiyani. Dozens of PML-N workers marched from the house of former PML-N provincial lawmaker Chaudhry Saeed Iqbal to Shandaar Square in Jhelum. The rally was led by Iqbal, national assembly hopeful Kiyani, provincial assembly candidate Dar, provincial assembly candidate Zafar and PML-N General Secretary Ejaz Janjua.
