SHABQADAR/ CHARSADDA: Border guards of Pakistan and Afghanistan exchanged gifts and sweets at different border crossings between the two countries on the day of Eidul Fitr.
A ceremony was held at the Pak-Afghan border crossing of Gorsal, in the Mohmand tribal district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, on the first day of Eid where Lt Col Muhammad Akbar of the Frontier Corps (FC) handed over Eid gifts to Afghan border police officials Sher Wali , who is commanding an Afghan post on their side of the border.
The border officials from the two sides exchanged Eid greetings and vowed to coordinate with each other for peace and security in their respective border regions.
A similar function was also arranged at the Torkham border crossing where the Khyber Rifles border force handed over Eid gifts to Afghan border guards.

The Khyber Rifles commandant presented sweets and bouquets to the Afghan border police official on behalf of the commander 11 Corps and IGFC in K-P.
He expressed good wishes for peace and prosperity in Afghanistan and on a reciprocal basis Lt Col Sadiq from the Afghan border police also extended good wishes for Pakistan.
Similar functions were also held at other border crossings between the two countries.
Meanwhile on the eastern border, the traditional exchange of gifts ceremony could not take place between Pakistan and India due to unabated ceasefire violations between the two countries.
Traditionally, India’s Border Security Force (BSF) and Pakistan Rangers exchange gifts on festive occasions like Eid and Diwali. However, this time ceremonies did not take either at Wagah-Attari border crossing or at the Line of Control.
Persisting tensions on the working boundary and LoC were cited as the reason.
