Police and traffic police said they were well prepared for handling the city on the eve of Eid and the Eid holidays when there is expected to be a huge rush of people at shopping malls and commercial areas and later on at recreational spots.

While police have their eyes peeled for criminal activity threatening the life and property of the citizens on this festive occasion, the traffic department has made sure that there is no gridlock on the roads.

However, both the departments are in a fix of how to handle juveniles that come out on the streets on the night before Eid and keep racing about their motorbikes and cars disturbing the public. Besides which police say they are well prepared to handle terrorists, robbers, muggers, thieves, purse snatchers and pickpockets.

Police have finalised the plan to guard the city on Chand Raat and Eidul Fitr as over 4,000 cops will be deployed to ensure security arrangements.

Police holidays have also been cancelled to augment Eid security in the city while additional forces have been deployed for sensitive areas, along busy roads, markets and shopping centres. Graveyards, mosques, Eidgahs, Imam Bargahs and picnic points will also be covered properly on Eid, a police spokesman said.

As many as 2,500 police officers and Jawans have been deployed in all the sensitive places including bazaars and shopping malls to maintain the law and order situation. Besides the force, officials of Special Branch, Elite Force Commandos, Ladies Police, Muhafiz Force and Police Qaumi Razkars are also performing security duties, he said.

The security plan will continue throughout the days of Eidul-Fitr under the supervision of City Police Officer (CPO) said the spokesman urging the citizens to cooperate with the security forces by informing them about any suspicious situation. City Police Officer, Fatal Ahmed Kosar has ordered fool proof security for Eidul Fitr prayer congregations. Eid prayers will be offered at 875 mosques, 50 Imam Barghas and 63 prayer grounds in the district. All out efforts will be made to avoid any untoward incident on the eve of Eidul Fitr, said police spokesperson.


Main mosques of the city will especially be covered by armed police personnel and only one main gate of the mosques will be opened for the faithful. Security personnel will use metal detectors and no one will be allowed to go inside the mosques without body search.

There will be no permission to park vehicles, motorcycles, cycles and handcarts near mosques and imam barghas.

Traffic management

Rawalpindi City Traffic Police (CTP) have chalked out a thorough and comprehensive traffic plan for Chand Raat and Eidul Fitr. Talking to APP, CTP spokesman informed that two DSP, 41 inspectors, 507 warden officers and 137 traffic assistants will be performing field duties to regulate city traffic on Chand Raat.

Under the traffic plan, enhanced number of Traffic Wardens would be deployed in main city areas aimed at avoiding traffic jams on Chand Raat and during Eidul Fitr prayers. A control room has been set up at Traffic Police Headquarters to monitor the situation, he added.

According to Acting Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Bilal Iftikhar, all out efforts would be made to control traffic on city roads especially on Chand Raat.
