CPEC needs to help develop remote parts of country

Even as the mega $50 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) brings development in the country, a top planning official has said that it must also help improve situations in remote regions of the country, especially in the impoverished region of Balochistan.
Planning, Development and Reform (PD&R) Secretary Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui has said that CPEC is a long-term national project.
He expressed these views while chairing a meeting on CPEC at the Ministry of Planning, Development and Reform on Wednesday.
The meeting was attended by CEPC Project Director Hassan Daud Butt, officials from the Ministry of Energy (Power Division), governments of Balochistan and Sindh. Siddiqui instructed that all-out efforts must be made for the resolution of outstanding issues in the project.
