Bank robbed of Rs140 million in Rawalpindi

Armed men on Tuesday robbed a government-run bank and escaped with Rs140 million in cash and gold, reported Express News.
Initial reports suggested that bank lockers were robbed after the robbers disengaged the CCTV cameras and other security equipment at the bank. Machines and cutters were used to open the bank's lockers.
The police took two private security guards of the bank into custody for investigation.
The robbery is reportedly the single largest heist at a bank in the garrison city. Police registered a case and initiated an investigation.

Sheikh Tasawwar Hussain, owner and director of the Sky Exchange, told The Express Tribune that his company’s staff was carrying the foreign currency en route from Haripur to Rawalpindi in the van.

The exchange staff – comprising two guards, a cashier and a driver – mistook the gunmen for army personnel and stopped on the road, allowing a request to search the vehicle.
The gunmen allegedly held the exchange staff hostage and took the van towards Hassanabdal.
They stole the cash at gunpoint and then left all the four staffers at various locations in Hassanabdal, while the money exchange van was found abandoned near Rashakai interchange in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).
