PTI workers stage protest over tickets' allotment for general elections in Peshawar
Demonstrators irked by Taimur Jhagra being awarded ticket for PK-73 constituency
PESHAWAR:
The list outlining Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidates for upcoming polls aggravated sentiments of dissenting workers in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) which led to protest in Peshawar late Saturday night.
Irked by party leadership allotting a ticket to Taimur Jhagra, workers belonging to NA-30, PK-73 and PK-74 burnt tyres and blocked Bab-e-Peshawar road. The demonstrators chanting slogans against former chief minister Pervez Khattak, Shah Farman and Arbab Shehzad for supporting Arbab Zakar.
The workers urged for the provincial seat, PK-73, to be contested by someone from residing in the area. They said Jhagra should be contesting elections from his home constituency.
People of Lodhran have rejected dynastic politics of PTI, says Khursheed Shah
As the PTI’s ticket distribution raised many eyebrows, Khattak is contesting on both national and provincial assembly seats. Tickets have also been awarded to his nephew and son-in-law Imran Khattak to contest election from NA-26.
Business tycoon Jahangir Khan Tareen was disqualified by the Supreme Court, but his son Ali Tareen is likely to be awarded a ticket for NA-172 Lodhran.
