Musharraf set to file nomination papers for Karachi NA seat

Former president Pervez Musharraf is set to file nomination papers to contest elections from NA-247 (Karachi South-II), Express News reported.
The development comes after the Supreme Court allowed the former military ruler to conditionally file nomination papers in connection with the forthcoming general elections. The documents will reportedly be sent to Dubai for signatures, according to Express News.

A five-way contest is expected between Mustafa Kamal of the Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP), Arif Alvi of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), rights activist Jibran Nasir and Mutahidda Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) chief Farooq Sattar if his nomination papers are accepted.
On Thursday, a three-judge SC bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar heard the former dictator's appeal against a Peshawar High Court (PHC) verdict disqualifying him for life for promulgating Emergency in November, 2007.
The apex court also assured Musharraf’s counsel that the former president would not be arrested. It also allowed ROs to receive his nomination papers for the upcoming elections. Acceptance of his nomination papers, however, will be subject to case outcome.
