Nawaz sees PML-N emerging victorious on July 25

Says he is facing the court for future of this country

LAHORE:
Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif said, “My adversaries want to put me behind bars, they have once been successful and they want to do it again.”

Addressing a political gathering at Mandi Bahaudin, he said that if his enemies succeeded in incarcerating him, would people heed his call for a protest.

“A few people have been deciding the fate of this country for the past 70 years,” said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz supreme leader and added, “This needs to end.”

He said, “Our fight is against those forces who desecrate the sanctity of your vote with impunity.”

Sharif said he had attended 92 court hearings to date. “Is there any politician who has even attended five hearings?” he asked.

“They have disqualified me, they have de-seated me, disqualified me for life, barred me from leading my own party but still they haven’t had enough.”

He said the people would give their decision against his disqualification by voting his party back to power.

Regarding court hearing in the Panamagate case, where thus far his daughter and he had been unable to produce any money trail, Sharif said he was facing the courts for the future of the country, for the future of his generation and for youth.

He demanded his supporters to not only vote for the PML-N but also guard their vote.

The former prime minister said the days of rigging elections are over. “Our voters will look after their votes and won’t let our mandate be stolen.”

Earlier addressing the gathering, PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz said, “On 25 July, there will be a referendum against the decision [of the Supreme Court] and in favor of democracy.”

She said that it was very easy to remove a person people had elected to lead the nation. “All it takes is five people to give a verdict against him.”

“On the contrary, a person who abrogated the Constitution twice, who sacked seven judges, who insulted the chief justice of Pakistan, who sold Pakistanis to America and who gave our country the gift of terrorism is allowed to contest the elections.”

She said the kind of conspiracies Sharif had faced during his four years in power, if it was any other leader, he would have succumbed to pressure. “But Nawaz will not give up.”

She said, “We cannot be blamed for the current bout of loadshedding.”

Maryam regretted that NAB had refused to give us leave even for three days by saying that her mother was not in any imminent danger.

She said it was a pity that despite attending close to 100 hearings they were not allowed to accompany her to hospital for her upcoming tests.
