Mike Pence phones PM Mulk

Both the leaders agreed to the importance of strengthening bilateral relations

ISLAMABAD: The US reaches out to the Pakistani civil and military leadership on Thursday through separate telephone calls to caretaker Prime Minister Nasirul Mulk and army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

US Vice President Mike Pence phoned Mulk to congratulate him on assuming the office and conveyed the good wishes of President Donald Trump.

Pence wished the prime minister well for the effective implementation of the mandate of the caretaker government to hold the general elections in the country.

Both the leaders agreed to the importance of strengthening bilateral relations as well as pursuing the common objective of peace and stability in Afghanistan.

The prime minister said the caretaker government was committed to holding free and fair elections and the smooth transition of power to the elected government.
