30 motorcycles distributed among women
Move aims to enable movement of women without depending on male family members

At least 30 motorcycles were distributed among women under the Women on Wheels project by the Strategic Reform Unit, Government of Punjab.
A ceremony was held at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad and chaired by Deputy Commissioner Salman Ghani, while Government College Women University Faisalabad Vice-Chancellor Dr Naureen Aziz Qureshi was the guest of honour on the occasion.
ADCG Khalid Masood Farooqa, representative of Strategic Reform Unit Maryam Khan, Coordinator Bazla Manzur and others also participated in the ceremony.
Women on Wheels trains 3,500 women across Punjab
As part of the plan, more than 250 motorcycles would be distributed in Faisalabad under which 60 were given in two phases.
Deputy Commissioner Salman Ghani said that the scheme was aimed at enabling the movement of women without depending on male family members.
He added women formed 50% of the total population. “We cannot compete with the rest of the world without involving them in socioeconomic activities.”
The DC said that under Women on Wheels subsidy scheme, successful candidates across five districts including, Faisalabad, Lahore, Multan and Sargodha were qualified. He said that Women on Wheel Scheme was initiated in 2015 in which free training of riding motorcycles was launched.
